Whether you’ve been diagnosed or are just at a high risk for heart disease, you will need to know how to turn your heart health around. Despite various health campaigns, many simply do not understand how to improve cardiovascular health and decrease their risks. Vague advice such as maintaining a healthy weight, being active, and eating right doesn’t really explain how to turn heart health around. These particular steps are practical solutions that, when implemented into lifestyle, can promote heart health.

ASSESSMENT. If you haven’t had a routine physical lately, now is the time. This will enable you to know what “problem areas” you need to work on. Screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes can be crucial in identifying serious risks. This knowledge can be used to create a plan specifically for the individual.

RESULTS. If there are abnormalities in the previously mentioned screenings, these should be attended to in order to turn heart health around. Many people do not do anything about their results after a physical. Since blood pressure is known to fluctuate, it may be necessary to monitor on a more regular basis. Controlling any risks should always be a goal. If your test results come back and you are in good health, take your results as motivation to staying on track.
DIET AND EXERCISE. Eating healthier and exercising regularly can provide numerous benefits, but this may not always be an easy task. Time constraints and other obligations can often get in the way. For those in this predicament ,easy, yet effective diet and activity changes can be incorporated. Simply cutting out fried foods or switching to low and/or fat-free food items can significantly help. Taking a short walk three days a week, parking further than you normally might when going somewhere, or even using stairs when possible can make a difference.

MEDICATIONS. Your physician may prescribe medications if lifestyle changes alone aren’t enough to turn heart health around. Follow your physician’s instructions precisely in order to effectively turn your heart health around. It is important to keep in mind though, for medications to work sufficiently, lifestyle changes should still be implemented
