Dino Melaye remains Nigeria's worst senator, Murray-Bruce takes top spot

Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye has retained his position as the worst performing senator in the weekly YNaija Effectiveness Ranking for senators.

Melaye assumed the position last week due to his war of words with Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello. The vocal senator is under intense pressure as he is currently battling to save his seat at the upper chamber following the decision by his constituents to effect his recall as their representative.

As signatures increased to effect his recall, Melaye took to his Instagram page to shade Bello in a comical post, while accusing some Kogi state appointees of forgery, saying they will end up in jail. The senator was alsoreportedly caught on tape scheming with a top officer on how to frame people for the assassination attempt on his life.

While Melaye was busy battling with his recall woes, the senator, representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Ben Murray-Bruce clinched the top position in the week under review, as he took to his Twitter account to call for peace.

In a country where sitting senators are seen hobnobbing with Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, and a key proponent of hate speech, Murray-Bruce’scall is a welcome development.

Over the past weeks, the nation has been on a knife edge with youth from the South East and the North exchanging words over theBiafra agitation. But, the Common Sense senator was having none of it as he decided to weigh in with some words of wisdom, saying, “I call on all politicians, leaders and stakeholders to be responsible in their utterances”.

Bruce’s rise sees Senators Bukola Saraki, Enyinnaya Abaribe and Ovie Omo-Agegedrop down to the second, third and fourth positions respectively.

Senator Sabo Mohammed representingJigawa South West rose to the top twenty this week. Mohammed’s rise followed reports that he helped secure the release of thirteen inmates from prison in his state.

Senator Sani Danladi (Taraba North) fell off the ranking totally, as he was sacked the Supreme Court and replaced by Shuaibu Isa Lau, who debuts on the last position in the ranking.

Nigerian oil marketers refute NNPC’s claim on crash of petrol Price

Nigerian oil marketers, under the aegis of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA), have refuted the claims made by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on the crash of the petrol price. They argued that the corporation might have reduced petrol price at its stations because of its relative ease of assessing foreign exchange. The Executive Secretary of DAPPMA, Olufemi Adewole, told journalists yesterday that members of group were still selling petrol at N145 per litre, adding that he was not aware that the price of the product had crashed. He said, “I’m not aware the price of petrol has crashed. My people are still selling at N145 per litre.
